WHY WE SURVEY
Monitoring changes in biodiversity helps Albertans to make informed decisions about land use and managing our natural resources.

Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth, from microscopic insects to massive trees, and all the wildlife in between. Maintaining biodiversity supports productive ecosystems and is critical to human health. Healthy ecosystems help to:

  • Regulate our climate,
  • Provide clean and reliable sources of drinking water,
  • Produce trees to support timber production,
  • Create forage for sustainable cattle production, and
  • Supply the many pollinator species required to produce high-yielding crops.
WHY WE SURVEY
With your cooperation, the ABMI is able to monitor and report on the status and trends of Alberta’s species, habitats, and human footprint.
Alberta's Natural Resources

Working with Albertans, the ABMI provides objective, value-neutral scientific information about our province’s biodiversity and human land use to support long-term management of the province’s land and natural resources.

With your cooperation, the ABMI is able to monitor and report on the status and trends of Alberta’s species, habitats, and human footprint.

Albertans are vital to the ABMI's mission to:
  • Create a legacy of biodiversity information that will benefit future generations,
  • Collect unbiased, scientifically credible data from across the province,
  • Provide species and habitat information to support informed decision making, and
  • Maintain open, honest, and lasting relationships.
